The Swansea Conservation Commission is a seven member board appointed to 3 year overlapping terms by the Board of Selectmen under Chapter 40 of the Massachusetts General Laws. The Conservation Commission is charged with the protection of the values and functions of wetlands,

• Private Water Supply
• Flood Prevention and Stormwater Control
• Erosion and Sedimentation Control
• Storm Damage Prevention
• Water Pollution Control
• Wildlife Habitat
• Protection of Fisheries and Shellfish Habitat

The Commission derives its authority from:

• The Massachusetts Wetland Protection Act (M.G.L. ch. 131 sec. 40)
• The Rivers Protection Act
• Regulations  
• Town of Swansea Wetlands Protection By-law and its associated regulations
