Information for
Capital Building Committee
The Capital Building Committee was formed in 2021 to assist the Town in developing a financial plan for public facilities to be built, including but not limited to a Town Hall, Council on Aging, Highway Garage, or Fire Station, as well as to develop the public facilities portion of the Comprehensive Plan and devise a proposed infrastructure plan to meet the Town's needs. Recommendations for planning and proposed projects have been provided, and will continue to be provided, to the Board of Selectmen, Advisory and Finance Committee, and Town Meeting.
The Town hired CHA Consulting as the Owners Project Manager for these building projects. We have hired Turowski2 Architecture who has partnered with Weston & Sampson as an architecture team. We will continue to post regular reports and status updates, information about the scope of the project, and notification of public informational sessions and public updates. In June 2023, we held a Meet and Greet and Visioning Session for you to meet your design team and provide insight on public needs. The presentation and video is linked below as are other helpful links to reports, recommendations, videos, packets, and more. Please forward questions, comments, and other thoughts to municipalcomplex@swanseama.gov.
In November 2023, Town Meeting rejected the proposal of a Municipal Complex that would address all infrastructure needs of the Town and pave the way for upcoming needs for the Fire Department and School Department. As a result of the negative vote, the Capital Building Committee is developing other proposals informed by the feedback and comments made against the Municipal Complex. At that same Town Meeting, a Feasibility Study was funded by voters for the School to work with the Massachusetts School Building Authority to develop plans for a new Middle School. A separate School Building Committee has been created through the School Department, as prescribed by the MSBA, and began meeting in October 2023. Reach out to the School Department for more details.
The Fire Feasibility Study Committee is finalizing a draft version of their plan. Visit here to view the report.
