Town Clerk
A MESSAGE FROM THE TOWN CLERK
The Town Clerk’s Office strives to serve Swansea residents in an efficient and friendly manner. The Town Clerk’s Office issues the following items:
  • Birth, Marriage and Death Certificates - certified copies available for $10.00 each
  • Business Certificates - an approval letter is required from the Building Department for first time filers; the fee is $40.00 and the certificate is valid for 4 years.
  • Dog Licenses - Licenses are valid from April 1st of each year to March 31st of the following year.  Licensing applications and instructions are attached to the Annual Town Census and can be applied for when submitting your census form.  Fee:  Spay/Neuter - $5.00 Unaltered - $10.00
  • Recreational Shellfish Permits and Commercial Shellfish Licenses - see the complete fee schedule online.
  • Marriage Intentions/Marriage Licenses - all marriage license applicants need to arrive 30 minutes before closing time to complete the application; Monday to Thursday - must arrive by 4:00PM and Friday - must arrive by 12:30PM
  • Voter Registration - can be done in office, mail in or online: https://www.sec.state.ma.us/divisions/elections/elections-and-voting.htm  
  • Street Lists - $10.00 each
The Town Clerk's Office also handles the Annual Town Census, Proof of Residency or Voter Status Certificates and Public Records Requests; we accept Zoning and Planning Board applications; are responsible for the posting of all public meetings for Town Boards, Committees and Commissions; and the keeping of all Meeting Minutes. The Town Clerk's Office oversees Town, State and Federal Elections; Annual and Special Town Meetings; and the preservation/archiving of historic documents.  The Town Clerk's Office handles all burial interments for Mount Hope and Vinnicum Woods Cemeteries; and the sale of cemetery lots for Vinnicum Woods.
