Shell Fish Information Open / Closed Status

signRecreational/Resident/Non-Resident Shellfishing Permits and Commercial Shellfishing Fishermen Licenses 
are issued through the Town Clerk' Office at Swansea Town Hall, 81 Main Street. Permit/License fee may be paid by cash or check only during regular business hours:  MON-THURS 8am to 4:30pm  and FRIDAY 8am to 1:00pm 
Boat Ramp Parking Passes
Boat Ramp Parking Passes are to be purchased yearly and can be purchased at the Swansea Police Station - checks or money order only - NO CASH!   Day Parking Passes can be obtained at the boat ramp using the DAY PASS METER. The meter accepts exact bills and change only; the meter will also accept credit and debit cards. BE ADVISED THE MACHINE DOES NOT MAKE CHANGE.

CLOSED AREAS
: Coles River, Lees River and DMZ/BAY area
1.  LEES RIVER FROM THE 195 OVERPASS NORTH TO THE POWER LINES IS CLOSED DUE TO HIGH BACTERIA COUNTS.
2. COLES RIVER FROM THE REYNOLDS PROPERTY LINE NORTH TO THE 195 BRIDGE IS CLOSED AND RECLASSIFIED AS A CLOSED AREA DUE TO POOR WATER TESTS 3. OVER THE PAST TWO YEARS. 
ALSO
COMMERCIAL FISHERMEN
must abide by the Pre-Determined Management Days of opening. Please request a "Relay Management Card" from the warden explaining the open / closed days and sections for commercial shellfishing.  
RECREATIONAL SHELLFISHER'S
can shellfish these areas any day that the Green Flags are flying for the rivers. 

Please READ and UNDERSTAND the 2023 RULES & REGULATIONS. KNOW THE MAPS and where you can or cannot shellfish.
